Fostering In
The West Midlands

Sadly, there are over 10,000 children in the West Midlands who cannot be looked after by their own family. We are urgently recruiting more foster carers in the West Midlands who can provide care and support to some of the UK’s most vulnerable children and young people. You could join our Fostering West Midlands team of foster carers!

We are recruiting foster carers all across the West Midlands, particularly in:

Meet Our Team

I’m Diane Green, Area Manager for TACT West Midlands. I first joined the team as an interim manager and returned in 2021, drawn to TACT’s not-for-profit values. It’s a privilege to work for such a dedicated, child-focused organisation alongside a fantastic team of supervising social workers, family finders, support and administrative staff. In my role I’ve had the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with foster carers who are passionate about helping children and young people to reach their potential. Together, we make sure that every carer and child feels supported, valued, and truly part of the team.

“I take great pride in creating opportunities for children to grow, knowing that every success is a shared achievement across our team.”

– Diane Green

Can I foster in the West Midlands?

The first step is to check that you fulfil the basic general fostering requirements:

  • Are you at least 21 years old?
  • Do you have at least one spare bedroom in your home?
  • Are you a full-time resident of the UK, or do you have indefinite leave to remain?

If you have answered ‘yes’ to all three questions, you have fulfilled the initial criteria. We would now like to talk to you further about why you would like to become a foster carer, and ask you some more questions.

Together we transform the lives of children and young people, giving them the chance to lead happy, loving, fulfilled lives. At TACT we are more than just a fostering agency; as a charity we put our foster carers and the children they care for at the heart of everything that we do. Choosing to become a foster carer is one of the most rewarding decisions you will ever make, and we will be by your side every step of the way making sure that you feel valued, encouraged and supported – that is why 98% of our foster carers would recommend fostering with TACT.

why foster with tact in the west midlands?

  • Support for new carers.
All new TACT West Midlands foster carers will be allocated a foster carer buddy, to provide informal support and guidance.
  • Support groups for existing carers.
Our ‘Circle of Friends’ support group is held once a month, giving you the chance to meet other foster carers and share experiences. These take a hybrid in approach with some taking place via teams, whilst others are face to face in West Bromwich or Walsall.
  • Support for young people.
Our Engagement and Activity Practitioner’s provide the children in your care with additional support, activities and events in the West Midlands. Our “Star of the month” Children also receive a voucher and certificate.
  • Supporting your own children.
We understand that your own children play an important role in the fostering household. As such, our ‘Children Who Foster’ events provide your own children with an opportunity to socialise with other young people who make an amazing contribution to fostering.
  • Therapeutic support
We provide Thepareutic support through TACTIC Clinics, offering specialised attachment therapy, plus expert consultations for Autism and ADHD.

Ofsted Good Provider

“Children make good progress from their starting points. This is because of the excellent care that they receive from their foster carers and the agency support network around them.” – Ofsted, 2023.

TACTIC Clinics

For each young person that comes to live with one of our foster carers, we arrange an attachment clinic to help identify any specific support that the child may need. A support and training package for both the foster carer and young person is then be developed, and is suited to everyone’s individual needs.

Each month, TACT West Midlands also operates ‘TACTIC clinics’ – which provides the fostering household and other professionals the chance to reflect upon a young person’s journey so far, along with their current needs. This enables the foster carer to offer the child attuned care which supports the development of healthy secure relationships, and provides the opportunity for recovery from early year’s adversity.

Our TACTIC Clinics promote long term stability and well-being for our young people.

“I was first introduced to fostering at the age of 11 as my sister was in a mother and baby placement. My understanding of fostering back then was that it was similar to adoption, that people offered stable homes and support to young people, but just not on a permanent basis…”
