TACT’s Aspirational Fund Helps Budding Pilot To Fly

A special fund used to provide TACT’s young people with potentially life-changing opportunities has enabled a 12 year old young person to get one step closer to their dream of becoming a pilot.

TACT’s Aspirational Fund has already been used to fuel new hobbies, so when one of our young people expressed an interest in planes, we swooped in to help him realise his dream.

‘A’s interest started around 3 years ago when he came across a video about planes and was immediately fascinated. He began taking flying lessons, but these turned out to be expensive. His social worker and TACT South West Area Manager Sara Gullick recognised his interest continuing to grow, so they offered to pay for one of the lessons using the Aspiration Fund.

A said: “Of course, I didn’t fly the plane by myself, I had an instructor with me who would do the hard bits like taking off and landing, but the rest was up to me.” He also described how the planes he’s flown weren’t commercial planes as they were “small with one engine”. He said that he would like to “become a pilot where I fly big planes!”.

It’s incredible that the Aspiration Fund has been able to help a young person pursue their dreams and we hope that one day A will achieve his goal of becoming a pilot.
