Fostering In London & The South

Fostering London & The South: Our Regions

Sadly, there are over 20,000 children across London and the South who cannot be looked after by their own family. We are urgently recruiting more foster carers in London and the South to join our Fostering London team, who can provide care and support to some of the UK’s most vulnerable children and young people.

We are recruiting foster carers all across the London & The South, particularly in:

Read more about Jennie

I’m Jennie and I’m one of the Fostering Recruitment Managers for London & The South. I have been a qualified social worker for over 16 years. I initially spent 10 years working for my local authority directly supporting looked after children and their fostering and birth families. For the past 7 years I have specialised in working with fostering families, through assessment and supporting them. I learned quickly that assessment and recruitment of new foster families is where I really enjoy making a difference and so I have really focused on developing in this area. I love meeting new potential fostering families and supporting them on their fostering journey.

I started at TACT in November 2025 and was first attracted to TACT because it is a charity and I felt that the values of TACT aligned closely with my own. I have found TACT to be a supportive organisation, and I hope to replicate that into the way that I assess and find new foster carers. Becoming a foster carer is a huge commitment, but I hope that with TACT’s open and supportive environment new families will feel confident to take on the task.

Outside of working I volunteer at my daughter’s school once a week to help with the school band as a saxophone player. Music is an important part of my life, and I love supporting children to enjoy music as much as I do. I also volunteer with my local all-female football club, where I coach under 9s football and where I am also the club’s welfare officer. I think girls being able enjoy playing football and develop in so many ways is incredible and I am so proud to be a part of something which is so inspiring.

Can I foster in London & The South?

The first step is to check that you fulfil the basic general fostering requirements:

  • Are you at least 21 years old?
  • Do you have at least one spare bedroom in your home?
  • Are you a full-time resident of the UK, or do you have indefinite leave to remain?

If you have answered ‘yes’ to all three questions, you have fulfilled the initial criteria. We would now like to talk to you further about why you would like to become a foster carer, and ask you some more questions.

Together we transform the lives of children and young people, giving them the chance to lead happy, loving, fulfilled lives. At TACT we are more than just a fostering agency; as a charity we put our foster carers and the children they care for at the heart of everything that we do. Choosing to become a foster carer is one of the most rewarding decisions you will ever make, and we will be by your side every step of the way making sure that you feel valued, encouraged and supported – that is why 98% of our foster carers would recommend fostering with TACT.

  • Support for New Carers
All new foster carers with TACT London & the South are matched with a foster carer buddy, based on shared interests or similar placements. Buddies provide informal support and guidance to help you throughout your journey.
  • Foster carer and SSW Quarterly Breakfast Meet-Ups
A favourite among our foster carers, these relaxed gatherings offer the perfect opportunity to come together, share experiences, and support one another. It’s a wonderful chance for our local fostering community to connect and unwind over breakfast!
  • Local Carer Support Group Meetings
Our monthly support meetings for carers are primarily held online, with in-person sessions also held at three locations.
  • Support for young people
We provide a variety of engaging activities for our young people, including residential trips and exciting outings to indoor trampoline parks, climbing centres, theme parks, water parks, and even pantomime outings in the lead up to Christmas.
  • Supporting your own children
We understand that your own children play an important role in the fostering household. As such, our ‘Children Who Foster’ events provide your own children with an opportunity to socialise with other young people who make an amazing contribution to fostering. These activities often include trampolining, bowling, and cinema trips, as well as online support groups tailored for birth children.
  • Therapeutic support
We also provide a quarterly Therapeutic Parenting Group, led by our Supervising Social Workers and a qualified Psychotherapist.

Foster Carer Stories

Discover what other TACT foster carers across London and the South have to say about their experiences.

Sharntel has been a TACT foster carer since 2015

“She is the most beautiful part of my life.”

Sharntel, a TACT foster carer since 2015, cares for a 10-year-old girl with epilepsy and autism. Despite the challenges, Sharntel finds immense joy in their journey, celebrating small victories like eating independently. Her foster daughter has become the most beautiful part of her life and inspired her advocacy for children with disabilities.

“Both our children see him as their big brother”

Having children of your own shouldn’t prevent you from fostering. As long as you are matched carefully with a child, it can really benefit both your own children and the children you foster to have other children around.

“I love watching the way that she has grown in confidence”

There is no doubt that fostering, while challenging, is also extremely rewarding. I love watching the way that our foster daughter has developed and grown in confidence. I am very proud that she has completed her college course and secured an apprenticeship.
