Making Memories at Llangrannog!

TACT’s Fostering Wales team took a group of young people on a residential trip to Llangrannog during the summer holidays – to try some new activities, spend some quality time together – and to create memories that will stay with them long into the future.

Eleven young people aged 8 to 13 attended from TACT, alongside nine children from our North Wales fostering partner, Foster Care Values (FCV). This was the first time FCV had taken their young people on a residential break, and it proved to be a very positive and successful experience.

From the very first evening, it was clear that friendships were beginning to form. The team-building activities helped everyone settle in, feel included and begin building trust with one another. Over the few days we were there, we could see confidence and independence growing in the young people. Some of the biggest highlights included walking down to the beach, splashing in the sea together (some fully dressed!) – and taking part in the tobogganing, which was fast, wet, exciting and full of laughter.

It was especially lovely to see so many of the young people try something new; they encouraged one another to step outside of their comfort zones by cheering each other on, and celebrating every achievement. Whether it was taking on a high jump onto a giant airbag or simply giving an unfamiliar activity a go, there were many proud moments and plenty of big smiles!

At the end of each busy day, it was just as meaningful to see everyone relax together; watching a film, eating popcorn, chatting about the day and sharing thoughts and life experiences in a calm and supportive space.

Feedback from our young people was wonderfully positive. Here are just a few of the comments we recieved:

• “I have had fun with my friends and meeting new ones. I enjoyed getting splashed by the waves at the beach and feeling chilled there.”
• “Llangrannog is the best place in Wales. I have already been here seven times with school and TACT. I love meeting friends.”
• “You meet new friends for life. Go karting was my favourite activity.”
• “I loved the experience. I had a great time, it was really fun and I made many friends that I’d love to see again.”
