Fostering North West

Sadly, there are over 15,000 children in the North West who cannot be looked after by their own family. We are urgently recruiting more foster carers in the North West who can provide care and support to some of the UK’s most vulnerable children and young people. You could join our Fostering North West team!

We are recruiting foster carers all across the North West, particularly in:

Jon looks after our fostering north west team

When you choose to foster with TACT North West, you will be choosing to join an incredible team of foster carers and staff. Jon Broadhurst, our Area Manager for the North West, has been with TACT since 2014. With prior experience in local authorities and other fostering charities in Manchester and Liverpool, Jon brings a wealth of expertise and commitment to our team.

“We have such an amazing team here in the North West – we really do pride ourselves on providing the highest level of support to all of our foster carers and young people. If you’d like to speak to myself or one of our foster carers to find out more about what it’s like to foster with TACT North West then just get in touch and we can get it arranged. Since my time with TACT I have seen huge developments in the support services we can offer to our families and children, it is my proudest professional achievement to have been part of this.”

Vicky
Deputy Area Manager

I have worked with the North West Team since 2018, after qualifying as a social worker in 2010. I feel honoured to work alongside such dedicated, caring colleagues and foster carers across TACT who share the same passion of making a difference to children and young peoples’ lives. I am passionate about ensuring foster carers receive good quality support in order to support children and young people to achieve their full potential.
Lisa
Therapeutic Social Worker

I qualified in social work in 2012 and spent my first two years in a child protection team. I joined TACT in 2014 as a duty social worker and over the years my role has changed to supervising social worker and finally to my current role as the therapeutic lead within the team. I am extremely passionate about working with children, young people and their families and I cannot imagine a job that is more rewarding than the work we do.
Yvonne
Senior Supervising Social Worker

I have recently joined TACT North West. I have worked in different Local Authorities and specialised in childcare. I did most of my frontline social work with Liverpool and progressed into management there. I enjoy working with children and ensuring their care plans are progressing well and children have the best outcomes. I am looking forward to working with their carers and supporting them.
Mandi C
Senior Supervising Social Worker

I joined TACT in July 2018 as a supervising social worker. I was attracted to TACT’s charity status and their people-centred approach. I love being a part of the North-West team and I’m proud of the positive difference we make to our children and young peoples’ lives. I work closely with the foster carers to ensure the best outcomes for our children.
Mike
Senior Supervising Social Worker

I have been working for TACT since November 2008 and thoroughly enjoy being part of the TACT North West team. I was first drawn to pursue a career as a Social Worker in the late 1990’s after having worked for several years in a supporting role to children and young adults with learning and complex disabilities.
Keeley
Senior Supervising Social Worker

I joined TACT in 2022, after working in a busy court team as a Children’s Social Worker for a Local Authority. I am driven to create and sustain positive changes for children and young people and genuinely strive to achieve positive outcomes for them.
Jess
Children and Young People’s Wellbeing Practitioner

I joined TACT in 2017, and I am honoured every day to work alongside the children and young people, and such a great team of colleagues and foster carers. TACT lives and breathes its values, which makes a big difference to the lives of our children and young people. My fun fact is that I was once spotted to be in a Hollywood movie but would rather be part of TACT any day of the week!
Maureen
Admin Manager

I have been with TACT as Admin Manager since 2004 and have been part of TACT’s journey throughout that time to see it become the dedicated, caring, compassionate company to our young people and foster carers. Throughout my career I have had various roles, but I can quite honestly say that being part of the TACT team and working with such wonderful colleagues has been the most rewarding and enjoyable venture.
Audrey
Panel Administrator and Family Finder

I have worked in the admin team for TACT North West for seven years, and I am both Panel Administrator and part time Family Finder.
I have worked for charity and not-for-profit organisations for over 30 years and TACT North West have the most amazing, supportive and professional people. It is an absolute pleasure to be a part of our team.
Mandy P
Family Finder

I have worked for TACT since 2023 and feel very lucky to work in such a caring and supportive team. I’m delighted to work in an organisation that truly cares about children and their futures.

Our North West Community

Can I foster in the North West?

The first step is to check that you fulfil the basic general fostering requirements:

  • Are you at least 21 years old?
  • Do you have at least one spare bedroom in your home?
  • Are you a full-time resident of the UK, or do you have indefinite leave to remain?

If you have answered ‘yes’ to all three questions, you have fulfilled the initial criteria. We would now like to talk to you further about why you would like to become a foster carer, and ask you some more questions.

Together we transform the lives of children and young people, giving them the chance to lead happy, loving, fulfilled lives. At TACT we are more than just a fostering agency; as a charity we put our foster carers and the children they care for at the heart of everything that we do. Choosing to become a foster carer is one of the most rewarding decisions you will ever make, and we will be by your side every step of the way making sure that you feel valued, encouraged and supported – that is why 98% of our foster carers would recommend fostering with TACT.

  • Support for Foster Carers
Within our team in the North West, you will have access to your own Supervising Social Worker who will have monthly supervision with you, weekly support calls and will also be available for any additional support you require. All new foster carers will also be allocated a foster carer buddy, to provide informal support and guidance.
  • Foster Carer Wellbeing
We host various wellbeing events for foster carers, including coffee mornings, spa days, escape rooms, golf outings, and meals out, mostly held in Liverpool and Greater Manchester.
  • One-to-One Support for Young People.
We also have a fantastic team of Engagement and Activity Practitioners. Our Engagement and Activity Practitioners do incredible work with the young people who live with our foster carers in many different ways. The support from the Engagement and Activity Practitioners is tailored to suit each and every child’s individual needs. For some children it may be a fun day out at a trampoline park, and for others it may be support overcoming an issue they have been experiencing.
  • Group Activities for Children and Young People
Our group activities offer engaging and supportive experiences for children and young people, including residential retreats. These activities are designed to encourage teamwork, build confidence, and create lasting friendships.
  • Supporting Your Own Children.
We understand that your own children play an important role in the fostering household. As such, our ‘Children Who Foster’ events provide your own children with an opportunity to socialise with other young people who make an amazing contribution to fostering.
  • Support from our Children and Wellbeing Practitioner
Local support for children and young people including one-to-one sessions focused on building friendships, self-esteem, and exploring feelings. This support features a buddying system to encourage positive relationships, engage in TACT activities, and improve sibling connections. It also involves strategies for reducing anxiety and managing anger, advocating for the young people’s wishes with wider professionals, and using the PACE model for explorative conversations.
  • Therapeutic Support
We pride ourselves on having developed an excellent model of therapeutic and trauma-informed care. We have our very own Therapeutic Social Worker who provides bespoke support to provide foster carers and children to understand and response to past trauma and emotional health needs. We also offer support from experienced staff trained in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) techniques.
