Fostering in Bromley
Many children and young people in Bromley cannot be looked after by their own parents, for a number of reasons. There could be internal conflict within the family, or maybe a family illness that means a parent is not physically able to take care of their children. Sadly, the most common reason is some form of abuse or neglect. TACT are recruiting foster carers in Bromley to provide guidance and care to these children. If this sounds like something that you could do, you could join our Bromley Fostering team!

Can I foster in Bromley?
You don’t need any previous experience to start fostering in Bromley. To proceed with an application, you would need to meet this initial criteria:
- To be over 21 years old (there is no upper age limit)
- To have at least one spare bedroom
- To be a full-time resident in the UK or have indefinite leave to remain
You would also need the time and flexibility to dedicate yourself to fostering. Good written and spoken English is essential, as you would be required to work with other professionals, and provide written records detailing the progress of any young people in your care.
Full Training
No previous experience or training is required to become a foster carer.
We offer thorough training to ensure you’re well-prepared to care for children in your home, with options for both in-person and online sessions.
The initial training, Skills to Foster, is completed online as part of the foster carer assessment. This introductory course covers the basics of fostering and provides an opportunity for you to ask any questions.
After being approved as a foster carer with TACT, you will have access to a full training program designed to enhance your skills, helping you provide effective care and make a positive impact on children and young people in the Bromley area.
We also offer specialised training to support you in caring for children with specific needs or requirements.
24/7 Support
24/7 Support
Ongoing support is essential for making a meaningful, lasting impact on children’s lives. We reinvest any surplus income into improving the support we provide to our fostering families, ensuring you always have the assistance you need.
As a TACT foster carer, you’ll be assigned a dedicated Supervising Social Worker, who has a manageable caseload to ensure they can offer you more personal time and attention. With the right support, we believe you’ll be better equipped to provide the care and guidance that truly makes a difference to children’s lives.
This is what we provide:
- Full 24/7 support. Your Supervising Social Worker is your primary contact, though our out-of-hours service ensures someone is always available for advice or assistance.
- Foster carer portal. A user-friendly online platform providing easy access to essential resources, advice, and training to support you in your daily role.
- Education service. Tailored guidance and support to ensure the children in your care have access to the best educational opportunities.
- Health service. Our health team closely monitors the well-being—both physical and mental—of the children in your care.
- Support groups. Local groups in Bromley and nearby areas where you can connect with other foster carers and share experiences.
- Support for young people. Additional activities and support for the children in your care through our Children’s Wellbeing Practitioners in the Bromley area.
- Supporting your own children. We recognise the vital role your family plays in the fostering process. Our Children Who Foster events offer opportunities for your own children to connect with others involved in fostering.
- Peer support. When available, we offer peer-to-peer support by pairing new foster carers with experienced TACT carers to provide additional guidance and help.
Pay & Allowances
Foster carers are highly skilled professionals, and our fees and allowances are carefully structured to reflect the vital role they play in supporting children and young people.
In collaboration with Bromley London Borough Council, we receive funding to aid the care of children and young people in the local community. This funding supports our services and enables us to assist our dedicated team of foster carers. The fostering allowance you receive will be influenced by factors such as the type of care you provide, the number and ages of the children in your care, and the complexity of their individual needs.
There are also payments for children’s birthdays, holidays and religious festivals. We also pay long service awards and a Refer a Friend fee (if you recommend someone who then goes on to be an approved foster carer with us).
Below, you can find examples of the weekly Fostering Bromley payments you could receive when a young person is placed in your care:
