Providing a Young Person With Their Dream Bedroom

It’s not often you get to fulfil someone’s dream. But our brilliant West Midlands team managed to provide one of our young people with their dream bedroom!

It all started last year when our team helped one of our families in the West Midlands with a trauma-informed home makeover. The bedroom wasn’t a part of this initial project – but we couldn’t let our young person down. So in April, Saj, our Deputy Area Manager for the West Midlands, and Supervising Social Worker, Helen – popped their TACT t-shirts on, and spent a couple of days getting ‘hands on’ at the family home, transforming our young person’s bedroom.

Our young person had already told us what he wanted and what helped to regulate his mood when we talked about it last year. We took these ideas and let him chose the paint colour, curtains, bedding and lighting. We were able to utilise our discretionary fund to make his bedroom transformation happen.

Our young person, and his foster carers, were over the moon with his new bedroom. They said: “He absolutely loves his bedroom.  It most definitely got the ‘wow factor’ on the second day when he saw his blue wall and then with the completion of the carpet fitting and the assembly of the new furniture. His bedroom is a delight to walk in to.

“There aren’t enough words to thank TACT, and Sajeeda and Helen, for stepping in to fulfil the promise of his bedroom makeover.  He adores the LED lights, the light features, the print in his bedroom and his bed.

“Once again a massive thank you from us all for the promise TACT honoured – and for the hard work in planning, sourcing and completing the makeover.”

TACT’s discretionary and aspirational funds can make a real difference for our young people. They can provide resources, opportunities and environments that help our young people to thrive. We’re so proud of our West Midlands team for making this happen. Whilst we can’t show a ‘before’ and ‘after’ photo of our young person’s bedroom for privacy reasons, Saj and Helen were happy to be photographed (they can also now add ‘painting and decorating’ to their CVs!).
