Fostering in Enfield

Foster carers play a vital role in caring for vulnerable children every day. If you have been thinking about fostering in Enfield, you could make a real difference to the lives of young people in your local area. As a foster carer, you would be providing a safe, stable and nurturing home for vulnerable young people in your care. TACT are currently recruiting foster carers in Enfield in order to provide nurturing care and guidance for vulnerable young people. If this sounds like something you could do, you could join our Fostering Enfield team.

Can I foster in Enfield?

You don’t need any previous experience to start fostering in Enfield. To proceed with an application, you would need to meet this initial criteria:

  • To be over 21 years old (there is no upper age limit)
  • To have at least one spare bedroom
  • To be a full-time resident in the UK or have indefinite leave to remain

You would also need the time and flexibility to dedicate yourself to fostering. Good written and spoken English is essential, as you would be required to work with other professionals, and provide written records detailing the progress of any young people in your care.

Full Training

No prior experience or training is required to become a foster carer.

We offer comprehensive training to ensure you feel confident and fully prepared to care for children in your home. Training is available both online and in-person to suit your needs.

As part of the foster carer assessment process, you will complete an introductory course called Skills to Foster. This short online course provides an overview of fostering and gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Once approved as a foster carer with TACT, you will gain access to an extensive training program designed to enhance your skills and empower you to care for more children and young people in the Enfield area.

We also provide specialised training to equip you with the tools needed to support children with specific needs or challenges.

24/7 Support

At TACT, we recognise that round-the-clock support is essential for transforming children’s lives. That’s why we reinvest any surplus funds into improving the services we offer to fostering families, ensuring you have the help you need, whenever you need it.

As an approved TACT foster carer, you will be assigned a dedicated Supervising Social Worker. With manageable caseloads, our social workers are able to provide you with personalised support and guidance, empowering you to make a real difference to children’s lives.

This is what we provide:

  • Full 24/7 support. Your Supervising Social Worker will be your main point of contact, and our out-of-hours service ensures assistance and advice is always available.
  • Foster carer portal. An online hub providing easy access to essential information, training, resources, and advice to support your daily responsibilities.
  • Education service. A specialist team dedicated to ensuring the children in your care receive the best educational opportunities and tailored support.
  • Health service. Regular monitoring of the physical and emotional well-being of the children in your care to promote their overall health.
  • Support groups. Local groups in Enfield and surrounding areas offer a space to connect with fellow carers, share experiences, and build a community of shared knowledge.
  • Support for young people. Our Children’s Wellbeing Practitioners provide additional support, activities, and events for children in your care in Enfield.
  • Supporting your own children. We value the role your own children play in the fostering journey. Through Children Who Foster events, they can meet others and share their experiences.
  • Peer support. Where available, experienced TACT foster carers offer peer-to-peer guidance, sharing practical advice and encouragement for new carers.

Pay & Allowances

Foster carers are dedicated professionals, and our fees and allowances are designed to reflect the crucial role they play in transforming children’s lives.

Working in partnership with Enfield Council, we receive funding to support the care of children and young people in the local area. This funding allows us to deliver exceptional services and provide comprehensive support to our foster carers. The fostering allowance you receive will depend on factors such as the type of care you offer, the number and ages of the children in your care, and the complexity of their individual needs.

There are also payments for children’s birthdaysholidays and religious festivals. We also pay long service awards and a Refer a Friend fee (if you recommend someone who then goes on to be an approved foster carer with us).

Below, you can find examples of the weekly Fostering Enfield payments you could receive when a young person is placed in your care:

What Our Foster Carers Say

“I chose TACT because it’s a charity and knew that any income it generates is going back into supporting the children. The support from TACT is great. And they even provided additional financial help to carers to help us through the cost-of-living crisis.”
