Fostering in Liverpool

There are many children in Liverpool who cannot be looked after by their own family. This could be because of illness or family breakdowns, or because they have experienced some form of neglect. TACT are recruiting foster carers in Liverpool to provide care and support to these children.

To begin your fostering journey in Liverpool, you don’t need any previous fostering experience. In fact, you don’t need any childcare experience at all, as full training will be provided. You will also be allocated a training programme to help you expand your knowledge and experience. The initial criteria to start your fostering application is to have at least one spare bedroom in your home, a caring nature, and energy to provide a child with a happy home. If this sounds like something you could do, you could join our Liverpool Fostering team!

Can I foster in Liverpool?

You don’t need any previous experience to start fostering in Liverpool. To proceed with an application, you would need to meet this initial criteria:

  • To be over 21 years old (there is no upper age limit)
  • To have at least one spare bedroom
  • To be a full-time resident in the UK or have indefinite leave to remain

You would also need sufficient time and flexibility to fully commit to fostering. Strong written and spoken English skills are essential, as the role involves collaborating with other professionals and maintaining written records, documenting the progress of the young people in your care.

Full Training

No previous experience or formal training is required to become a foster carer.

We offer comprehensive training to ensure you feel confident and fully prepared to welcome and care for children in your home. Training is conducted both online and in person.

During the assessment process, you’ll complete an introductory course called Skills to Foster. This short online course provides an overview of fostering and gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Once approved as a foster carer with TACT, you’ll have access to an extensive training programme designed to build your skills and prepare you to support more children and young people across the Liverpool area.

We also offer specialised training to help you care for children with particular needs or circumstances.

24/7 Support

At TACT, we recognise that round-the-clock support is essential to making a lasting impact on children’s lives. That’s why we reinvest all surplus funds into improving the services we offer to our fostering families, ensuring you have access to the help you need, whenever you need it.

As a TACT-approved foster carer, you’ll be assigned your own dedicated Supervising Social Worker. With carefully managed caseloads, our social workers are able to provide the personalised support and guidance you need to truly make a difference.

This is what we provide:

  • Full 24/7 support. Your Supervising Social Worker will be your primary point of contact. Additionally, our out-of-hours service ensures help and advice is always available whenever you need it.
  • Foster carer portal. An online hub offering quick access to essential information, training, advice, and resources to support your daily fostering responsibilities.
  • Education service. A specialised team dedicated to ensuring the children in your care receive the best educational opportunities and guidance.
  • Health service. Ongoing monitoring of the physical and mental well-being of the children in your care to ensure their overall health is supported.
  • Support groups. Local support groups in Liverpool and nearby areas provide a space to connect with fellow carers – to share experiences and build a knowledge sharing community.
  • Support for young people. Our Children’s Wellbeing Practitioners offer additional support, along with activities and events for the children in your care in Liverpool.
  • Supporting your own children. We recognise the important role your own children play in the fostering journey. Through our Children Who Foster events, they can connect with other young people who contribute to fostering.
  • Peer support. Where available, experienced TACT foster carers offer peer-to-peer guidance, providing practical advice for new carers.

Pay & Allowances

Foster carers are highly skilled professionals, and our fees and allowances reflect the essential role they play in the lives of children and young people.

Working in partnership with Liverpool City Council, we receive funding to help support children in the local area. This funding allows us to offer high-quality services and dedicated support to our foster carers. The fostering allowance you receive will depend on several factors, including the type of care you provide, the number and ages of the children you look after, and the complexity of their needs.

There are also payments for children’s birthdaysholidays and religious festivals. We also pay long service awards and a Refer a Friend fee (if you recommend someone who then goes on to be an approved foster carer with us).

Below, you can find examples of the weekly Fostering Liverpool payments you could receive when a young person is placed in your care:

What Our Foster Carers Say

“Support through TACT has been fantastic. Our social worker has gone above and beyond to help us, both practically and also emotionally. She has got to know the children we look after which has helped us hugely as we’ve reflected together about how best to meet their needs.
