TACT Foster Carers on Garden Rescue!

One of our fostering households recently took part in an episode of BBC’s Garden Rescue!

Joe & Sue, who currently care for two young people, moved to Scunthorpe two years ago to be close to their newly born Grandchild, and moved into a modern house but with a 144sqm garden that they had no idea what to do with.

One side they filled with play equipment for their foster children, but the other side contained Joe’s passion project: collectible metal and wooden animal sculptures. Sue, who was more used to a garden with “plants and trees and nice smelling things”, felt that it was lacking in this area.

That’s where the Garden Rescue Team worked their magic. In just a few days they completely transformed their empty garden into a welcoming space for friends, family and wildlife. The big reveal left Joe and Sue speechless with Joe saying, “I don’t normally get emotional but I really am”. The way that the team brought their visions to life, especially incorporating Joe’s sculptures more naturally into the garden, left them speechless.

There is now a sandstone patio which takes you through ornamental arches covered by climbers to the back of the garden and the beloved giraffe statue. The centre of the garden is now a haven for wildlife using meadow turf looked over by the topiary stag, a symbol of the newfound balance between sculptures and planting. In the other corner of the garden stands their large patio with English country planting, a gorgeous water feature, and of course Frankie the horse looking dutifully on.

We are so happy for Joe and Sue that they got to take part in this amazing opportunity, and we can’t wait to see what the garden looks like when it’s all grown!
