What does it mean to be a ‘Menopause Friendly Workplace’?

To be a Menopause Friendly Workplace is much more than ticking a box, making a promise or a pledge.  Menopausal women are the fastest growing workplace demographic, and with a significant majority of TACT’s workforce being female, we believe that being a menopause friendly workplace is incredibly important.

Being a Menopause Friendly Workplace means we are committed to educating and informing our leaders and managers to understand what menopause is, how it can affect a person and how we as an organisation can help to have great conversations and provide the right support at work.

The commitment we’ve made as a menopause friendly workplace means we provide guidance, resources and access to a community where we can network and learn from one enough through knowledge sharing sessions and organised events. All our resources are available to both our staff and our foster carers as part of our commitment to both.

We host information on our intranet, so that staff can access everything they need discreetly and confidentially. Line managers and HR are equipped with resources which can help them talk to anyone who may be struggling with menopause, and they are able to be referred to the most appropriate guidance and resources for them. Foster carers have access to this same information via their carer portal or through their supervising social worker. We also include reminders and quick links in C.A.R.E, our regular employee wellbeing newsletter.

At TACT, we have gone one step further in our support and commitment to be a menopause friendly workplace. We offer all our staff and foster carers a free menopause appointment with a qualified nurse provided by Menopause Support, a not-for-profit community interests company.

These completely confidential appointments give the people in our organisation an opportunity to talk in confidence and have all their questions answered about perimenopause, menopause, HRT and alternative treatments.  After attending one of these consultations, attendees can progress their needs with more confidence and a better understanding of the menopause journey.

Wellbeing of Women Membership

TACT are proud to be a founding member of the Wellbeing of Women Employer Membership Programme which gives organisations like ourselves the knowledge, skills and resources that we need to help support women’s health in the workplace. Wellbeing of Women is the only UK charity funding all of women’s reproductive and gynaecological health and their research is changing and saving lives.

As a charity, they fund vital research to find new cures, tests and treatments, and provide awareness, education and understanding of women’s reproductive and gynaecological health in order tackle the stigma and influence decision makers to improve women’s health.
